Nomato Sauce and Pulled Pork. That doesn’t really sound like a winning combination, does it? Well it just happened that it all came together this week, but not on the same night. I’ve been curious about the whole non-tomato marinara sauce idea and have had the ingredients in the frig for a while. I got home Sunday evening from an amazing day of snowboarding, and as tired as I was, I was just DYING to try making tomato-less marinara sauce. After looking at a few different websites I decided to follow a recipe I found on The Urban Poser. It turned out beautiful!

tomato-less marinara
I mean it is really pretty. Does it taste like marinara sauce? Well…pretty close. It’s missing a very key ingredient to regular marinara sauce so set your expectations at a reasonable level. I’ve enjoyed eating it this week and I’ve now got some in the freezer for a future quick saucy meal.
I found out early in the week that I was going to have to feed a group and went searching form something easy peasy. I found this pulled pork in the crock pot recipe and its all stuff I can eat! Yes, pulled pork can be made without BBQ sauce!! I found this recipe on Beyond the Bite

Crock Pot Pulled Pork
This stuff is AWESOME! The flavor is really good – spicy and not too sweet.
Ingredients
- 2.5 lb pork butt
- 3/4 cup balsamic vinegar
- 2 tbsp molasses
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- 1 tsp sea salt
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp turmeric
Process
- Place bork butt in a slow cooker.
- Rub down with garlic, thyme, salt, cinnamon, turmeric, and molasses.
- Pour in balsamic vinegar, cover, and allow to cook on low for 8-10 hours.
- Once tender, use two forks to shred the pork, then serve as desired
Definitely let it cook a long time. It just gets more tender the longer it cooks! Enjoy!
